The Gators have ranked number one overall in the SEC for their athletic departments due to their various successes in sports. The Florida Gators football team is especially prominent at the school, and the Gators compete in the Eastern Division of the Southeastern Conference (SEC).
Ben Hill Griffin Stadium, known by many as The Swamp, is home of the Florida Gators. The Gators football team started in 1906 alongside the university’s move to Gainesville. The team has since creation held incredibly notable success and recognition, and was even one of the founding members of the SEC. In addition to their eight SEC titles and three national championships, the Gators also won seven conference division championships and has had names that have made history in the sport. Urban Meyer and Tim Tebow are arguably two of the biggest names in college football! Tim Tebow’s national recognition has surpassed the college level and even taken him to be a hot topic of discussion in the NFL. The team has also had 12 individuals inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame and three Heisman trophy winners.
When it comes to rivals, the Florida Gator’s success has produced quite a few teams. Florida State, Georgia, LSU, Alabama, Auburn, and Miami are all rivals of the Gators. The Florida vs. Georgia game is famously known as the World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party.
