Just miles away from Universal Studios is the University of Central Florida, the largest university in the nation based on undergraduate population. The campus design is similar to its surrounding theme parks; showing distinct similarity to Walt Disney’s plans for Epcot. Ranked as 2015’s most up and coming national university, the University of Central Florida has a lot to offer its diverse group of students, including a great football experience.
The University of Central Florida Knights began as an athletic department in the 1969-1970 school year. The football program then began in 1979. The Knights compete in the Division 1 Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and play their home games at the Bright House Networks Stadium located at their main campus in Orlando, Florida. The Bright House Networks Stadium seats 45,000 fans. In their short time as a team they have been very successful making their fans proud.
After their 2014 season the Knights racked in 225 official victories, four division championships, and four conference championships! The team has also produced many NFL players and two Heisman trophy candidates. With so much success and spirit gained in such a short amount of time, the Knights have their rivals. Their main rivals are the East Carolina Pirates and the South Florida Bulls. Most of all, rivalries between students and fan is prominent with the University of South Florida.
Despite their football program being young, the Knights have an incredibly spirited fan base. There are so many occasions to dress up for gameday, from sorority and fraternity events, to tailgates, the game itself, to even alumni events! Fans at all of these events, and more, will be seen decked out in black and gold, the Knight’s colors.
